Vistaprint is the worlds biggest platform for on-demand printing of custom products. From business cards to posters, clothing and more. I was brought in as a Lead Product Designer to work on the transformation from Vistaprint to Vista.
I developed the MVP of the free QR Code Designer tool that became a great success, with tens of thousands of codes generated per month.
We saw a strategic need to build on the very basic QR code tool we already had in another part of our experience as the north star of Vistaprint is combining the offline print offering with modern digital marketing tools (such as QR codes).
We decided to use a 3rd party backend service to create the codes whilst we would simply create a UI that accommodated the vital functionality customer research showed was needed for our customers main use case of creating a QR code to add to business marketing assets such as menus, flyers and business cards. We built and launched the tool within the space of 3 months.
It became a great success with week over week KPI's tracking positively ever since launch. Post launch I set about working with our customer insights team to conduct research and discovery work around ways to improve the product (done via the in-built product feedback form, product metrics, usability testing, A/B testing and user surveys).
The main outcomes of this project were an influx of new traffic generated to the QR code generator which saw tens of thousands of monthly codes generated. This in turn lead to a significant number of new sales (in the tens of thousands of dollars) for Vista as the codes being generated were then being printed by us. The vasy majority of these sales were new customers to Vistaprint, meaning we had opened up a great new path to new customer acquisition.
